No. I am considered an out-of-network provider. I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. My life coaching services have lower fees. I also work at Airport Marina Counseling Service, which offers low-cost sliding scale services. I can provide referrals to bi+ affirmative therapists who take insurance.

Can you work with clients outside of California?
No. I'm licensed as a psychologist in the state of California and so legally I can only provide psychotherapy to individuals residing in California. If you live in California but travel out of state, I won't be able to work with you during your travel.

How do I prepare for virtual therapy sessions?
I strongly recommend using a larger device (e.g., desktop or tablet rather than a cell phone) with strong internet connection. Find a quiet and private location. Do not drive or walk during sessions. Sit in a comfortable chair and use adequate lighting. Treat the session as if you were in my therapy office.

Can I work with you as a therapist and a life coach?
If you are my therapy client, it is possible for you to later receive coaching from me so that we keep boundaries clear. If you are my coaching client, and would like to find a therapist, I will refer you to another licensed therapist. We can discuss this further if you have questions.

What's the difference between therapy and coaching?
Though there is some overlap, psychotherapy and life coaching are two different services. Both help people with personal concerns and involve talking and counseling. Psychotherapy treats diagnosable mental health conditions and typically delves into past childhood and family issues, and must be done by a clinician licensed in your state. Coaching addresses a targeted here-and-now personal concern through education and skills-building and does not require a license or certification.

Can you be my therapist if we already know each other through another community?
If we briefly met through another community group, and we don't have on-going contact or share close friends in common, then it is possible for you to become my therapy client. Let's discuss further at a 20-min consult.

What is your social media policy?
As a policy, I do not friend/follow past or current therapy clients because adding clients as connections can compromise your confidentiality and our respective privacy, as well as blur the boundaries of our professional relationship. You are welcome to follow me on social media and if you comment on my posts, I will treat you like any other follower in order to maintain your confidentiality.
